CREATE
Early Career Researcher Workshop
CREATE organises interactive workshops each year. Prominent experts within the field of health psychology are invited to lead these workshops. The overall aim of these workshops is to enhance knowledge and skills of participants. Workshop themes are current topics in health psychology theory and research, but also involve methodology and more practical issues like the process of developing papers for peer-review.
Please note that places are limited and are given on a first come first served basis.
An introduction to systematic reviews and novel approaches to evidence synthesis
Sunday 1st to Tuesday 3rd September 2019
Facilitators: Dr Jenny Mc Sharry and Dr Chris Noone
During this workshop participants will have an opportunity to learn about systematic reviews, and to discuss the pros and cons of novel quantitative and qualitative evidence synthesis methods. We will work through example systematic reviews to give participants familiarity with the important steps of all evidence synthesis approaches including:
- Developing an appropriate question
- Searching for studies
- Screening, data extraction and management
- Appraising studies
- Synthesising findings across studies
- Writing up and publication
Participants will also be invited to bring along the details of a systematic review they are currently working on, or are planning to conduct, to the workshop. The review can be at any stage of development, and we will encourage your input throughout the session on any questions or problems that would be suitable for discussion in groups.
